6-week media campaign to build awareness, encourage donations

Fort Wayne, Ind. – The City of Fort Wayne is collaborating with three local non-profit trail groups to form Fort Wayne Trails, encouraging the use and expansion of the City’s trail network.

Get Caught on the Aboite Trails on Sunday, October 14, 1:00pm
FORT WAYNE, Ind., October 12, 2007 – Aboite New Trails will host “Get Caught on the Aboite Trails” this Sunday, October 14 from 1-4pm, when volunteers will hand out free prizes to trail users of all ages walking or riding on the Aboite Trails.

Aboite New Trails Receives $25K From Lincoln Financial Foundation for Towpath Trailhead and Public Art Project
FORT WAYNE, Ind., Nov. 29, 2007 – Lincoln Financial Foundation has awarded Aboite New Trails (ANT) a $25,000 grant for the Wabash & Erie Canal Towpath Trailhead located at the intersection of Engle Road and the Towpath Trail. The Towpath Trailhead serves as the gateway to the Aboite Trails system which when complete will include over 40 miles of multi-use trails.

Aboite New Trails announces opening of 1-mile Vann Family Trail on June 11, 2007
FORT WAYNE, Ind., June 8, 2007 – Aboite New Trails will host a ribbon cutting ceremony with Commissioner Linda Bloom, State Representative Matt Bell and the Vann Family Foundation on June 11, 2007 for a 1-mile multi-use trail completed along Eggeman Road. The ceremony will take place at 1:30pm at the corner of Eggeman and Aboite Center Roads.

Aboite New Trails celebrates opening of 1-mile trail along Scott Road on May 30, 2007
FORT WAYNE, Ind., May 25, 2007 – Aboite New Trails will host a ribbon cutting ceremony with City officials and Deer Ridge Elementary School students on May 30, 2007 for a 1-mile multi-use trail completed along Scott Road.
 
    In early February, ANT submitted a Foellinger Grant Application in partnership w/the Greenway Consortium; if awarded in May, $300K over 3 years (2008-10) would be shared by both groups for Towpath Trail construction.
 
    We received a $5,000 donation from the Doermer Family Foundation!
 
    ANT held a kickoff meeting for Central Loop Trail engineering with A&Z Engineering, McCrea Land Surveying, and the City.
 
    The City has established a budget to improve sidewalks with new ADA ramps. That funding may also help fund our proposed pedestrian accessibility improvements throughout the Village at Coventry.
 
    With the help of the Landplan Group, ANT established deadlines for the completion of engineering for the Homestead/Aboite Center Intersection, Liberty Mills (Amber to Homestead).
 
    Look for ANT at neighborhood meetings! We recently established a more formal process for presenting at local neighborhood meetings.
 
    INDOT will rehab the bridge over I-69 and add a 10’ trail space on the Yohne Rd. bridge in anticipation of future trail along Yohne to connect from the Towpath to Fox Island.

ABOITE NEW TRAILS HOSTS 2nd ANNUAL BIKE RIDE FUNDRAISER
FORT WAYNE, Ind., August 28, 2006 – Aboite New Trails, Inc., (ANT) a non-profit organization promoting the expansion of multi-use trails throughout Southwest Allen County and surrounding communities, will host its second annual Bike About Aboite, a grassroots fundraiser, on Saturday, September 9, departing at 10 a.m. from (and ending at) the Homestead High School Ninth Grade Academy parking lot on Aboite Center Road. PARKVIEW HOSPITAL FOUNDATION PLEDGES $150,000 TO ABOITE TRAILS
FORT WAYNE, Ind., July, 2006 – Parkview Hospital Foundation announced recently a $150,000 pledge to Aboite New Trails, which will be used for completion of Phase III of the Towpath Trail.

Aboite New Trails Assisting City with Towpath Trail
Fort Wayne, Ind., July 17, 2006 – Aboite New Trails has provided the City of Fort Wayne with $225,000 to help construct the Towpath Trail that will connect Aboite Township with the Fort Wayne and New Haven Rivergreenway system.

Lutheran Hospital and City donate $200K to ANT
Aboite New Trails recently announced a $100,000 donation from Lutheran Hospital and a matching donation of $100,000 from the City of Fort Wayne. The combined $200,000 will be used for an Aboite Trail along Dicke Road, which is being redesigned to connect to Lutheran’s entrance on Aboite Center Road.
