Have you ever wanted to ride a bike, skate, run or walk somewhere, but didn't do so because there wasn't a safe, pleasant way to get there? Many citizens around Indiana and across the nation are able to do so via multi-use trails or linear parks. Fortunately for Aboite Township and its near 30,000 citizens, this can become a reality through the leadership efforts of Aboite New Trails, Inc., a non-profit organization whose goal is to promote the expansion of multi-use trails throughout Southwest Allen County.

A consolidated community, government, and corporate initiative is critical to making this dream come true. To find out more information or to volunteer, please email us at .

Aboite New Trails, Inc. seeks part-time grant writer/general writer

Desired start date is September 1, 2008. See instructions in the attached job description to apply.

  • Summer is here, and construction is underway!
Just in time for summer, the Liberty Mills Trail has recently been completed. Construction is also underway along Homestead Road, with a new “Trail Hub” at the Homestead and Aboite Center intersection. See how much trail there is to explore!

  • Seven connected miles of trails!
The completion of the Homestead Road Trail (projected for July 2008) will mark the opening of seven miles of contiguous pathways by this fall. The trails will stretch along Amber, Liberty Mills, Homestead, Aboite Center, and Eggeman Roads as well as a 1.7-mile loop around the Jorgensen YMCA and Indian Trails Park.

  • Government sponsored projects mean more trails on the way
Construction along Amber Road and SR 14 will soon add to the Aboite Trails network. The Amber Road Trail, a County project, is predicted for the fall of 2008, and the Major Moves funded project along SR 14, which includes a trail on the south side and sidewalk on the north side from Scott to Hadley Roads, is projected for completion in 2010.

Coming Soon!

  • 18-mile East/West Connection:
Look out for the Towpath Trail (currently in progress) that will connect the Aboite Trails to the City’s Rivergreenway network. The Towpath will meet the rest of the Aboite Trails at the Lutheran Hospital Campus Loop and create an 18-mile east/west link extending from Southwest Allen County through Downtown Fort Wayne and to New Haven. Aboite New Trails has raised funds for over 90% of Phase IV of the Towpath Trail from Lutheran Hospital to Engle Rd, with $134,000 still needed.

  • 10-mile North/South Connection:
The completion of the funded trails along Amber Road and SR 14, as well as Covington Road where funding is needed, will mark the first ten miles of connected Aboite Trails. The goal to complete this north/south segment is 2010.

Summer’s here and so are new sections of the Aboite Trails! The Scott Road Trail, a one-mile section connecting Covington Road and SR 14, provides access to Deer Ridge Elementary School, Sonrise Church, City Fire Station #19, and the Shoppes at Scott Road. With so much to do the possibilities for summer destinations are endless.

Once the trail link along Covington Road is funded, the residential and retail areas surrounding Scott Road will be linked to ten miles of contiguous trails. The Scott Road Trail was made possible by property donors at Sonrise Methodist Church, Southwest Allen County Schools, the City of Fort Wayne, and the Shores of Rock Creek/Rock Creek Communities.

It’s here! The Liberty Mills Road Trail is completed and waiting for you! This trail connects to Homestead Park and to Fire Station #18, where the City is building a public restroom and water fountain. The Liberty Mills Trail will soon connect to the YMCA, schools and the Aboite Trails network via the Homestead Road Trail (projected completion July 2008), and to the Amber Road Trail, currently under construction as part of a County road project.

Upon completion of the Homestead Road Trail (projected July 2008), the Liberty Mills Road Trail will connect to the first seven contiguous miles of the Aboite Trails, providing access to multiple residential and retail areas as well as schools and parks. With so much to do, the trails are a great way to reach your destination or just get out and go!

Fort Wayne Trails

Help connect the Aboite Trails with the entire Fort Wayne area! Only 7 miles of gaps in the newly named Fort Wayne Trails network need funding in order to link area residents with a 40-mile contiguous trail network. Find out how you’ll be connected and how you can help at Fort Wayne Trails.
